Hiking and Nature

The Drakensberg is much more than high mountains. The foothills are a mosaic of grassland, protea woodland and evergreen Afro-montane forest, with thornveld in warmer valleys, all dissected with perennial clear streams and associated riverine thicket.
As we have the Little Mooi River in our front garden,  we created a special shaded picnic spot on the banks of the river. During summer you can swim in the river or our freshwater swimming pool to cool off, taste our fresh mountain water and enjoy the lovely sunsets.

Cycling

For those looking for a little exercise this is a great area with many trails, from Kamberg Classic Mountain Bike Race to many more. You have a variety of options to pick from to satisfy your love for cycling. Bring your bike and do your thing.

Bird Watching

Drakensberg is home to over 500 species of birds. A high proportion are endemic – found only in South Africa. This is the perfect place to do your bird watching.

The perfect spot to engage with nature, only a few kms away from Kamberg. Perfect for fishing, viewing the wildlife or hiking.  Only 36 kilometres from our gate there is a private reserve where private tours can be arranged on request for the ultimate Drakensberg experience.  For a quick golf game we have a short 9 hole course available for a fee only a few minutes from our Lodge and for an intense game there’s a super course available at the Bosch Hoek Golf Club just an hour away. For the ladies there are a number of Spas in the area.  The Midlands Meander covers an extensive area offering a range of small specialist shops and restaurants. There are various routes and maps available detailing the various offerings.

There is also horse riding in the area subject to availability when booking.
